This night was full of alarm clocks and gybes.
The thrill of playing this sleep depriving game, staying at the top of the pack and thinking of a good strategy for the next few days is exactly how I remember it from 6 years ago.

I am not a heavy sleeper at all, but this night I managed to turn off my alarm clock and instead of changing the course of my boat I just plunged back into sleep withing 3 seconds.
This did not happen once but 3 times this night!

Is it my body not used to this lifestyle anymore? It seemed a lot easier back then when I was just 15 years old hahaha. Guess I will just finish leg 1 to rewire my brain to always think about this game unconsciously. Even when I am asleep.

For now, lets just see if I can manage to close the gap back to the top and atleast retake the 3300 positions I lost in a matter of 8 hours.

Anyone else who had a rough second night?

I had like 30 gybes or so last night, slept at the most 2 hours :(
Ended up top 8 all day but damn i miss the old game without these stupid cards.

the new card system is just pulling people out of playing
most of us have a job and we cant survive if it continues with night like last one
doing a good programmation and having the result in the morning was what it was about
without programmation tool, it's just a stupid game for team spreads all over the world
too bad....

edit
just posted similar comment on their FB page
it has been removed within 1 minute !
might try twitter then

Don't bother. They only have 6k twitter followers and 60k on facebook.

They will fix it when it starts hurting their sales and the paid players in Leg 2 are half of those in Leg 1.

BTW it looks like they've already reversed the decision to sell the full option pack only before the race - now there is a second chance to get it. And people would, if it included unlimited programming.

That's a fair sales pitch. I wonder if VOR takes any interest in VR's decisions? Reflects poorly, in my opinion.

"No Waypoint Sailors" may be a new category in VR. I know I'm in it. The time point and fixed point cards are too expensive to buy, too rare in the chum bucket, and too ridiculous to use. Another cardless gibe-fest like yesterday's Gibraltar exodus, or something equivalent upwind, will make a DNF for my boat pretty likely.

I conceded last night as well. I put 5 waypoints (for 15 cards), which was hardly enough to cover 6 hours of double sized gybes. Losing 7 NM to the competition and 250 places. I spent all the free credits on the full options for this leg. Next leg I don't have enough credits anymore and I will not pay for what I don't get. BTW, does anyone know what prizes can be won? Volvo does not state anything and VR also not. The only prize is credits and VSR points? I think I will not be in the second leg. I will however check in every now and then to see what VR develops into. Maybe they will learn. The number of players is not very high this time. That was my brutal night! :-)

I ended up missing two gybes and going south too early. A pity, because I was doing quite well, given all the circumstances

My wife, who gave me a lot of support back in 2011-2012, was seriously worried about my lack of sleep. And she complained that the game was taking a lot of time of me.

She was right.

I had never been so unhappy about virtual sailing as I was yesterday. I am not a quitter, but I seriously considered calling it a day.

I can understand what VR is trying to do. They are all business. The (e-)sport is not really very important -- it is just a business tool.

I am really fond of virtual sailing games. I play at Sailonline, at LiveSkipper, a bit at Virtual Loup de Mer. No one makes players' lives more difficult that VR. It is almost as if they wanted teams and boats with autopilots to become more common.

I bought 5 nav packs and that gave me 15 program cards and 35 waypoints. Used those with minimal gybes to get past Gibraltar; then had one of those work days where getting online wasn't an option. Net result -30 miles and several thousand places on the group I was sailing with. I'm sure I would have lost some with the old system, but an extra 5 gybes would have made a huuuuuge difference...
