As of 2017.10.31, 1000 UTC, there are not any intermediate marks between Lisbon and Cape Town.

Thoughts?

Not good. Especially with the 4kts lower speed limit turns the game into 100% lottery.

It'd put a mark at Fernando de Noronha if the problem was newbies following the short path (which is now even drawn on the chart)

I can see the point of having a 4 knot minimum, but a solution to the problem would be to to only have it for only 1 or maybe 2 wind updates and then revert to the real wind.
That way it wouldn't overly penalise those who were unable to log in for every wind update, but would penalise those who wanted to use the 4 kt. rule to take short cuts through areas that would otherwise have less wind.

on the VVOR leg 2, do you think it's realistic to follow the coast of Africa?

It's not impossible for that route to win, given some luck and the in-game minimum wind speed.

Now, the static preliminary routing is not very different with and without the limit, but in reality you can get stuck in the doldrums for days because the forecast wind for tomorrow won't be there. Even in 6 hours it won't be where you have been heading.

But limit or no, it still looks unlikely that the African route wins - needs an extremely unlucky low pressure system development and timing in the Southern ocean.

I will then check and study the most direct route

With the current forecast both routes stay together to Nouadhibou because of strong system in the North Atlantic, so it may be possible to make the decision 3 days after the start.

Interesting. The RaceExperts twitter account uses better forecast and has slightly different view on the routing

But even this way the route is the same, at least to the Canaries.

I think it will still change a bit until sunday. But it could be an interesting race. I am looking forward to seeing what the choices are, too bad we don't have the satelite viewer anymore, really liked that to check the different groups in the race.
