Cvetan,

Do you maybe still have also a pro.kmz file of the leg 8 routes taken from Itajai to Newport in one of the previous editions of the VOR (like you did for latest leg 7 or actually in the previous edition it was a leg 5).
They give a nice first glance in Google Earth.

It was Leg 6, but went to Miami that year. Quite different strategy in the North Atlantic.

A lot of alternative races in the SO version ;-)

The leg comes in 3 distinctive parts with separate decisions.

1) Along the coast up to Natal. More offshore or not.

2) Rounding the Brazilian coast. Usually slightly offshore because of the wind patterns, bit it depends.

3) Passage to Newport. Generally two options are possible. South, along the Caribbean islands, or a direct route.

Thanks Cvetan. Was off line for a while. Nice to evaluate

Did you by the way make pro.kmz files of the current race too?

Is there a course which dosen't require going throw land?

Is it me or Zezo as an "exclusion zone" after Natal???

That's artifact of the router algorithm. It will resolve itself when we get closer.

BTW it's possible that when it comes to it the track will look about the same way because of the trade wind weather pattern.

Is it just me having finger trouble, but my chart is giving me the start way offshore. In position 37 18.7S 47 07.5W
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2018-04-21 | 08:34:52
Default position is

start_lat -26.91378
start_lon -48.62781

Extension also opens http://zezo.org/vor/chart.pl?lat=-26.91378&lon=-48.62781 right now.

Thanks for posting. The combination of a fast talking reporter and my rusty french limited my main takeaways to 1) they have the programming resources to fix the WebGL memory leak & 2) this is not the only place that Philippe stays in hiding...
oh, I almost forgot: they had a much nicer map display than the one they give us, but I guess that would use even more memory!

The map display is google maps, probably web based. You can't use it for commercial purposes without paying.
