I am seeing that the proposed route goes north till Okinawa.
I am a bit supressed.

Is it actually the best route, is it some kind of bug, is there any control there?

Finally, my admiration (and acknolewdge) for this fantastic tool Cvetan. And thanks to all the forum members for your attention

In the real race the North East route helped Puma to get ahead of the rest of the fleet in 2011. The 2014 VORG leg from Sanya was won by boats taking the NE route.... and actually going further east than Zezo is suggesting this time. There is some light stuff forecast for north of Auckland in the last few days of the leg which is putting paid to the wide route. With these boats which are so quick downwind in decent breezes, it pays to use a system to get east(if you can) and then sail hard and fast downwind through the trades rather than beating into them for several thousand miles.
