Hi,
Is there a way you can see how much a race costs without going in to a race. Either buying or using credits.
I tried to look once but didn’t want to race ad the game started my boat anyway!!

Price is fixed, based on VSR Level
1 is 30 Eur
2 is 25 Eur
and so on
6 is 5 Eur, but I'm not sure there was ever a level 6 race.

Hi,
The easiest way is to login in guest mode and register for the race.

Thanks guys.

So they put on races for people who are staying at home due to the virus and make it a VSR 2. That’s nice of them!!!

I'm going NoMoney in those. 100 Eur is "a bit" too much. Will probably cost me some places in the general ranking because I'm back at that VSR level where I need top 1% result to not be in the red, but that's unavoidable. You have to pay and play each and every race to stay in the top 50 or so.

You don't actually have to do every race... You just have to pay (credits or cash) to have full options every time you choose to race. Your ranking doesn't get hurt if you don't enter at all.

But your case is special because you have to access every race to run Zezo... and indeed, once you enter, if you don't pay, you'll put up a result that will hurt your ranking.

I can access the race from a secondary account, but playing a race is the best way to notice if something breaks.

I do not pay for all races. Racing without additional credits is still a good option to have a fun.
VSR ranking, to be on top - you have to be extremly good, spend a lot of time and pay enormous amount of your money. It is how the ranking works at this moment.

FWIW, here's the table of costs for options using credits by category:

http://forum.virtualregatta.com/topic/5249-co%C3%BBt-en-cr%C3%A9dit-des-options/

So... If you want to do it on credits with all of the options that matter, it'll cost 6300 credits.

I might do one entry on credits. Or zero. I haven't decided yet. I'm having a hard time justifying entering at all because I find the choice to do this at Category 2 somewhat offensive. If the goal was really just to give people something to do, while making a some money and some new customers, Category 5 or 6 would achieve that. But at Category 2, it feels like it's all about making money.

The announcement says something confusing, though... It says "Part of the revenue generated by certain options which will remain payable will be donated to an association or a project engaged in the safeguarding of maritime heritage". What does that mean?

I think the first part (ie, the implication that some things won't cost anything) is about VIP being free. But... whatever. Nothing in VIP is worth paying for anyway. Then the second part is about a donation... How much, and to who? If they said 90% of the proceeds would be donated to a specified organization that helps people impacted by COVID-19, I'd pay for at least one full pack right now. But an unspecified fraction to an unspecified organization that seems to have nothing relevant to current circumstances? No thanks.

All I can think is that the main justification for the high price is that professional sailors will also be racing. They've charged high prices for races against real pros before. I guess that makes it somewhat interesting, but I have yet to see one of those top pros take the game seriously enough to finish anywhere near the front.

Very frustrating.

Thanks ever so much for the graph on credit costs. Just what I was looking for. Perfect thanks.

Hi YM,

Here a video of VR explaining their approach.

https://youtu.be/UT8HHBtkWaU

It's in French but they promise to give us the names of the beneficiary associations before the start of the races. We'll see !

Thank you! If more details are provided in French, please post here in English... If a signficant percentage is given to a reputable charity, then this can be a great thing and I would want to participate and pay. It's just difficult to do that without a specific commitment.

Of course I'll pass news as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a quick transcription of the video

From 1'30'' :

"We decided to donate part of the options that will be purchased to an association. To be frank, we hesitate between an association that does research (long term) or an operational association in the field that supports caregivers. This is the decision we have to make. In any case, we will let you know before departure."

Thanks. Very helpful. Hopefully they'll also state what percentage will be donated.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-03-22 | 18:23:17
Whatever the percentage you better donate 100% to a charity of your choice.

100% agree
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-03-22 | 20:31:27
Hi guys... Did you mean that to be directed to me individually? If so, then I apologize for whatever I said that was upsetting.

I'm guessing you meant it as a more general statement. If so, then yes, I also agree. A lot of people are going to need a lot of help.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-03-22 | 21:34:48
Not personal at all. You know I'm not a native English speaker. The "you" was supposed to be collective.

My reaction is directed against VR.

I mean, if someone wants to spend $100 playing the game, that's OK with me. But spending $100 just because _some_ of it may go to a charity is a bit dubious.

Now, if they said 100% of it goes to a certain cause I'd happily pay some money myself.

Thanks for clarifying. I fully agree. :-)
Post by iconPost by lorenzo | 2020-03-23 | 12:29:39
YM absolutely not, it is about VR. I am sorry if I also was misunderstood.

btw, did you notice how we "not native" well understand each other? It is you native guys speak a strange english :-)
Stay well

No worries. I thought that was probably the case. I just wanted to check in case I had upset someone.

In the end, VR didn't clarify the specifics pre-start. I eventually decided to buy one entry (Figaro). Hopefully it will mostly go to charity.
