Hello, just for information.
There won't be any zezo for La Mauricienne?

Our webmaster may not have had the time.
Thank you.

Configured.

Hi Zezo.
Thank you for your work.

Question:
In the section = "predicted time to equator", what are the coordinates of the "Equator" point?

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-05 | 16:10:47
The first possible crossing.

Target is South Africa, but it does not really matter.

In this race the target is about two weeks to Agulhas, but the early forecasts don't have enough data to reach it, so you have to check daily (at least when good time to the equator is predicted)
Post by iconPost by misterdjul | 2020-10-05 | 16:24:17
how many days for the equator? 6/7 or 8?
I am thinking about the stage: fernando de noronha.
To avoid the "pot au noir" area.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-06 | 10:23:34
Equator is possible in less than 6 days, but we may not have enough time to wait for that. Real world record attempts have been sitting on standby for 6 months waiting for that ideal window.

Approaching South Africa along the coast is unlikely indeed, because of the doldrums, and because of the st. Helena high with steady headwind down South.

But with some (a lot of) luck a shortcut a bit east of Brazil works sometimes.

Hi Cvetan,
I see a lot of difference between the boat speed displayed in the UI and in the dashboard (15.3 TWS, 18.66 boat speed, 60TWA) and the one displayed in the Zezo router (15.5 TWS, 17.02 boat speed, 60TWA).
Are you sure the polars are the same?
Thanks!

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-07 | 04:52:37
Ooops.

I've applied the single-handed configuration without the 10% crew bonus.

Fixed.
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2020-10-07 | 07:33:43
The polars are for the "multi/maxi_trimaran_x10percent" boat, right ?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-07 | 10:46:27
Yes, id=9

Now we got better times to the equator too ;-)
Post by iconPost by Pimpi | 2020-10-08 | 16:13:39
Dear All,
I cannot log in in VRo with my computer during the last three days.
This is very a so bad situation expecially considering that I bought a full pack with the expectation to sail in virtual regatta!!!

Sometime, I can log in with my tablet or mobile. But I do not have zezo there.

So, my question is: After the start, is it relyable the zezo routing even if I am not logged in at the same time? I have noticed that the zezo's maps look updated

Many thanks,

Post by iconPost by Pimpi | 2020-10-08 | 16:20:29
PS a warm thank you to zezo for the support :-)
Post by iconPost by Luis75 | 2020-10-08 | 17:00:56
Ciao Pimpi,
you could load the zezo.org chart related to Mauricienne on the pc and load the coordinates you can see from the tablet. In this way you always have an updated routing.
Ciao!

Okay, doesn't seem to matter how many program moves you get, they don't work. Just sailed right through one like it wasn't there. Teammates are reporting that their boats are returning to the old bearing after making a course change.

Biggest problem. Position is not updating in Dashboard. Still reporting my first position after the start, repeatedly. Clicking boat to get position manually is disabled due to too many players.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-09 | 12:37:11
Yes, right now the boats are stuck at 12:05 UTC. Seems that the game engine is not running and we only see the client-side position interpolation.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-09 | 12:41:14
Also, the client-side collision detection seems to be running in larger steps. Shows the warning somehow inland, and I hit Groix right in the middle - track was going straight through it on the default zoom level.
Post by iconPost by Hardtack | 2020-10-09 | 12:46:30
Very strange things going on. I just started an attempt and it seems that even manual commands don't work.

I will check the dashboard later today. It is very possible that VR changed some message formats but I didn't see anything unusual when I looked yesterday.

Wind in the game is also off by 90°.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-09 | 12:53:08
It's not the dashboard. It's the data stream. Same message arrives every 5 minutes.
Post by iconPost by Hardtack | 2020-10-09 | 13:38:56
There is an obsolete column in the dashboard however :-)
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-09 | 13:12:14
I'm getting position updates now in Dashboard as of 13Z
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-09 | 15:09:38
Cvetan's comment about changes to the collision detection reminded me of the ice limit they had in the last Vendee and haven't had since... Where you could tack away from it and then be told you violated it because the extension of where your prior tack would have been would have crossed the line in the same 5-minute server cycle, or something like that... They haven't used an ice limit since that race, as far as I can recall. I wonder if the latest adjustments relate to trying to implement a new version of it.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-09 | 15:19:53
The protocol mentions ice limits in the race data, but it was never implemented in the current version.

But it has nothing to do with the ground chart. Ice limit is defined as set of lines and checked by formula.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-09 | 15:32:14
Ok. I was assuming the "collision detection" logic you were referring to was a shared algorithm, both for checking collisions with land and for checking violations of the ice limit. If the ice limit logic is entirely separate then there's no connection here.

Either way... I hope if they use an ice limit, they make it work better than last time... I'm doubtful, since they haven't had one since the last Vendee.

Nope, I emailed them, don´t expect a resolution before x-mas, not sure which year
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-18 | 19:02:41
What's a good time for this race? Was it done in crewed Ultimes last year?

Think we are going to have to make a restart decision in the next 2 days.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-10-18 | 19:32:50
16 days 8 hours last year, with the solo boat.

But it was later in the year. Better conditions on average.

The upcoming window tomorrow or the next day can achieve something similar. 12.5 days to Agulhas.

The last possible moment to start would be in the beginning of November.

Is this event being impacted by the same bugs as Jamaica Express, or are they still running this one on the old engine?

I'm kinda staying away from it all until I have a sense that the bugs have been ironed out.
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-19 | 14:22:52
It's run on the old engine, although it has it's bugs. For instance, it's not ranking boats at the gates, so, no way to know if someone is on a flyer, unless you follow them.
Post by iconPost by Velaska | 2020-10-19 | 14:28:10
For what I can see La Mauricienne (having started on Oct 5th) is still using the old engine, with the new programming/waypoints structure.
I've found no one of the way too many silly bugs we had in Jamaica Express except for the fact that there is no ranking at the equator gate

Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-25 | 16:50:09
Equator in 5:16:05 or so. Anyone know of better?
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-25 | 20:15:54
Sure would be nice to know even your own time to the gate, assuming it happened overnight.

Anyways, very roughly, I see myself, NZ-Eligo and BossHogg all around 5:18. Not aware of anyone else better than that, other than you YMSA.
Post by iconPost by turtle 1663 | 2020-10-26 | 07:43:22
Nope, you´re the provisional virtual leader, your group is having the perfect run, coming down like rockets :-))

Post by iconPost by Solveig IV VSC | 2020-10-26 | 11:39:37
I'm also in the 5d, 18h group, more precisely 5d, 17h, 37'.
Post by iconPost by M63 | 2020-10-26 | 12:18:37
Me too ;)
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-10-26 | 21:06:06
I'm in 5d 16h 50m
Whats the issue with track and ranking? any Ideas??
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-26 | 21:49:13
I don't know what's up with the track, but I think in the VR forum, a moderator said in response to the absence of intermediate rankings that this race didn't have intermediate rankings last year either... So I guess they don't view it as a problem.
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-10-26 | 22:50:32
I don't think that's correct, I'm sure we had gate rankings last year on this race.
this is the first time I have experienced this.
And its not really nice, as I liked to have a reverence to others
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-27 | 04:00:59
It was in French and I was skimming so maybe I mis-read it.
Post by iconPost by Tarahumara_POR | 2020-10-28 | 10:07:54
I remember that it had intermediate ranking (before ... all records had it!) as passing trough equator and Cape good hope. this game is all F@.. I cant see even my own track...
YourmomSA ... You are just behind me and you have probably a 2 to 4 h lead ... so I would say that u would be around the 1st.

But now VR as soon as more than "3" ;) are connected they disable features in the game... what about updating the servers and computing speed processor ... we pay lots for that.

Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-28 | 12:37:47
The only way I can figure to get relative rankings is by comparing track lines and seeing the daily blobs. Of course, with no track for yourself, you can only check other people and then try and estimate yourself by someone close to you. Or enlist someone else to check for you.

By that method, it appears that YMSA, you have a clear lead of at least an hour. Stevoo and NZ-Eligo next.

You can only see who you follow. With no gate rankings there could be someone out there, completely off the radar, who's actually leading and we won't know until he finishes.

Post by iconPost by turtle 1663 | 2020-10-28 | 19:34:54
Launch another (free) boat, just for checking your track
Post by iconPost by misterdjul | 2020-10-29 | 00:36:44
You make the race Yourmomsa... Good Game ! :o)
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-29 | 01:30:27
Thanks, but this is far from over. The group that started on October 18 and 19 (including me) is now starting to demonstrate an important lesson to observe for Vendee... Fleet compression at the front edge of a weather system, when the boats being sailed are capable of sailing faster than the system. The front of the system becomes like a wall, unless you're able to transition to the next system ahead, which is usually impossible.

So... in a race like this, or Jules Verne, the trick is to be the latest starter to get to a good system before it gets out of reach. Then the people who started ahead of you run into the wall and you can catch them very fast. I look very good right now, but if I hit the front of the system, then NZ-Eligo, aspiln, Stevoo, and others who started after me will sail right up to my transom. They started after me, so they'll have better elapsed times. I'm still tracking Tipapacheri and Buddha too... They're pretty far behind, but if they're able to connect with the same system, and the fleet hits the front of the system, they'll close the gap very fast.

Of course, it's also very possible that I could hit light winds in the final day off Mauritius, like the pack that started October 9 (Toppen, ghostbuster, etc) did yesterday, only to have everyone who started behind me come up win winds near the finish like today's. So... I still need a lot of luck for it to work out. But I'm pretty happy so far!

My point about Vendee is... Don't stress too much about who's leading at Cape Alguhas. Instead, just worry about being in the same system as that boat. Everyone in the same system will likely come together for a virtual restart at the front of that system a few days later.
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-10-29 | 09:16:00
you are correct YMSA, Buddha and Tipapa are the ones to be watched. they are coming up fast from the back and will be within hours of us /our time, at Agulhas. The key is definitely a good run north to the finish line. going by current forecast, we will hit it spot on.
Fingers crossed, team mates call it, "spin the wheel"

Post by iconPost by Tarahumara_POR | 2020-10-29 | 11:54:04
Correct ... I started 5 to 6 h earlier and you are 30min behind me just now ... compression in its best, unfortunately :) ;)
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-29 | 15:56:00
I believe Stevoo and NZ-Eligo are now effectively ahead of me on elapsed time.
Post by iconPost by misterdjul | 2020-10-29 | 18:14:52
I am not sure I understood everything.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-29 | 20:25:33
Imagine that the big weather systems going through the southern ocean are trains. Everyone who catches the train jumps on, and starts walking to the front. When they get to the front, they can't go any further forward. The train is still taking them down the track fast, but everyone who caught the same train will eventually catch up to them in the front car.

So the important thing is just to make sure you catch the same train. In fast boats, everyone will compress at the front eventually.
Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2020-10-31 | 17:20:49
And I was in the 1st coach from the very beginning :-)
Post by iconPost by misterdjul | 2020-10-30 | 00:15:42
So, the hardest part is going to be getting into the last car, and waiting for the right moment to move towards the lead car.
At the risk of falling off the train.
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-30 | 00:32:46
I chose to head to the station early, cause I was looking at an unusual low off Rio to shoot us into the St Helena high. Was worried I was going to miss that train, turns out everyone caught it. Not working out so well now. Getting crowded up here.
Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2020-10-31 | 17:37:07
Don‘t worry, I‘m the driver of the train. Started 18hours before Your Mom, for business reasons I had to start early and hope. Already got a beating through the doldrums, and the train now is a long one. I guess something like 20hours :-).
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-10-30 | 01:40:35
I'm the Conductor, got on last. now moving forward, stamping everyone's ticket, LOL.
Hope they don't throw me off the train at Agulhas, hehe
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-30 | 02:01:42
Feel free to miss your stop and take that train to Australia...

Some boats to keep an eye one, as they haven't entirely missed it yet and started even later... gushami, galere, and maybe, maybe, maybe Buddha and Tipapacheri.
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-31 | 13:40:43
Checking the daily blobs on the tracks, looks like the compression has pushed Wallin to the lead. Those farther back, like Tip and Buddha appear to have been too far back to benefit and are falling off the back.

Compression at the front is nearly complete. I've caught or overtaken boats that started as much as 12 hours ahead of me. YMSA, who started 7 hours behind, would now be visible over my transom.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-10-31 | 16:32:40
11:15:47

NZ-Eligo and Stevoo will post much better. M63 and Galere maybe also. Gushami not yet but still gaining. Tipap and Buddha maybe falling off the back finally, but not sure. I don't know who else is on the train and started behind me.
Post by iconPost by turtle 1663 | 2020-10-31 | 17:30:17
What is the expiration date for this record?
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-10-31 | 17:42:34
November 18th at 15Z
Post by iconPost by turtle 1663 | 2020-10-31 | 17:47:59
Thanks, that´s it then, no more windows :-)
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-10-31 | 18:28:47
Spektakel went passed Agulhas in 11d 12h 10min or there about, best time on my radar. He has about 15min on myself and 19min on Caraxes.
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-11-01 | 00:20:47
Hey, something I just noticed. If you click your card to check your position and elapsed time, the time stamp is from when you last entered the race, not the current time. Position is current "estimated" I'm guessing, but your elapsed time is to when you entered the race. So, if you are calculating your total expected time to the finish, by adding that to your route time, you are getting an underestimate.
Post by iconPost by Stevoo | 2020-11-01 | 00:26:41
yes, yet another annoying thing from VR, to get accurate time you have to reload the game constantly
Post by iconPost by BooBill | 2020-11-01 | 00:54:47
Also, that high we were looking to zip around for the approach to the finish is spreading and moving east faster than originally expected.

For those at the front of the train, it's going to set us back more than 6 hours. That's no big deal though since we will still easily beat the clubhouse time, just not by as much. The further back you are the more that's going to harm you though, so this fleet might stretch a bit.
Post by iconPost by YourMomSA | 2020-11-01 | 12:47:59
I need it to stretch us a bit and then die as I'm exiting the light part. It has looked at times like it might do a bit of that, which should help... but I really doubt it'll be anywhere near enough.

Crazy... the leaders have average speeds for 12+ days over 30 kts.

another question :
I was between the first and third place on the Cape. I hesitated to veer EAST to bypass but I trusted zezo which always pointed west straight ahead.
Why hasn't zezo seen this? What advice can you give me on this?
Post by iconPost by Rostef | 2020-11-04 | 19:38:52
You were a bit more north than the pack, and also probably a bit late compared to the group just behind me. But that‘s not the point: zezo is a router, so a pure calculation of a momentary situation - so it generally doesn‘t ‚see‘ things, it just tells you what would be fastest at that right moment. Feel free not to follow it if you see a differrnt option or move the destination according to you interpretation, but don‘t blame it 3 days later for not being accurate 3 days ago :-).
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-11-04 | 20:44:35
The router is a bit short-sighted. It does not know about probabilities and sometimes suggests solutions that work in a static wind field but won't work when the forecast changes in few hours. Like crossing the Doldrums along the African coast.
Post by iconPost by wallin | 2020-11-05 | 07:54:47
A martyrdom this final stage, without wind there is no tactic that works. Sailor suffers, I hope I don't fall asleep until the end :-)
